Modern House |By DB Studios- 1 Kanal House
Concept and Form:
This totally Modern structure is built in the liveliest sector of the city. Its site enjoys a peaceful view to the west. A huge terrace is situated in the front to enjoy the west view. The internal planning is basically introverted. All the spaces are situated around a beautifully landscaped open to sky central courtyard (sehen). This multi-purpose courtyard is directly linked with kitchen/ breakfast area on the ground floor. On the first floor, a big cozy terrace opens up in the courtyard, creating an appealing visual and physical relation of the two levels. Throughout the interior, the decoration is kept minimal to retain its modern architectural style, which is preserved in the exterior by the sensitive placement of basic cubic forms, distinguishing each other by application of contrasting textures and complimenting each other by colors. The interesting plays of vertical and horizontal lines and planes- over all maintaining a subtle proportion gives this project a versatile character suitable for both corporate and residential usage.
Because of its logical response to its site conditions, simplicity of form and impeccable workmanship, this modern house can easily standout of the neighboring built environment.

Saifullah believes in a holistic design philosophy inspired by nature that places an emphasis on form arising organically from function. A step away from the generic look of modern architecture that can be at a complete disconnect with the location, he is one of the few authentic critical regionalists in Pakistan. His mission is to seek a design that while being firmly rooted in the modern tradition is inextricably tied to its geographical and cultural roots. In the centre of his designs are indigenous materials inspired by nature, the marriage of green architecture with a zen minimalism and extensive play of bold masses and volume in imaginative yet uncomplicated, simple lines.
